Computer Forensics Tools & Techniques Catalog
The primary goal of the Tool Catalog is to provide an easily searchable catalog of forensic tools and techniques. This enables practitioners to find tools and techniques that meet their specific technical needs. The Catalog provides the ability to search by technical parameters based on specific digital forensics functions, such as disk imaging or deleted file recovery. Note: information is provided by the developer. Any mention of commercial or non-commercial products is for information only and does not imply that a product has been tested.
A secondary goal of the Tool Catalog is to provide a picture of the digital forensics tool landscape, showing where there are gaps, i.e., functions for which there are no tools or techniques.
The website is divided into 3 major sections:
- A search feature to find tools and techniques.
- A page for developers to input information about their tools and techniques.
- A description of the functions and technical parameters. This is the Tools and Techniques Taxonomy.
The Catalog is growing. We will be adding new functions as suggested by the community. Comments are welcome. Please email toolcatalog@nist.gov.
The Catalog is a partnership between the Department of Homeland Security, Science & Technology Directorate, Cyber Security Division and the National Institute of Standards and Technology Computer Forensics Tool Testing Program.
